MINUTES OF IDENTITY COMMONS 2.0 TELECON 2006-08-23

ATTENDING

Drummond Reed
Joaquin Miller
Dan Perry

Attendance was very light due to vacations/events -- Eugene Kim, Mary
Rundle, Scott Blackmer, Paul Trevithick, and Mary Ruddy all sent regrets.

However we still had a very productive discussion about a key issue related
to the formation of a Swiss non-profit, namely how it will be funded. On the
previous week's call it was estimated that we should allocate a $10K annual
budget for legal & accounting (roughly double the typically legal/accounting
cost for a similar U.S.-based non-profit, however it was agreed the
additional expense would be worth it for the international outreach).

We discussed the best way for IC2 to raise those funds and there was
consensus on the following points:

1) Voluntary sponsorship with attribution on the website but otherwise "no
strings attached" is strongly preferred.

2) It would be ideal for all funding to come directly from individuals to
emphasize the user-centric identity foundation of IC2. However, since the
purpose statement also includes healthy communities, IC2 should be open to
the same voluntary sponsorship from businesses/organizations. All
contributions, whether individual and business, and of whatever amounts
(above some minimum threshold like USD $25), should be treated as equals.

3) Three-year funding commitments (payable annually) are strongly preferred
as this would give the organization a strong, stable foundation.

Once this consensus was reached, Dan Perry ended the meeting on a high note
by volunteering to be the first contributor pledging to meet 10% of the
annual budget for the first three years! (At $10K/year, that's a commitment
of $1K per year.)

He issued a challenge to 9 other individuals or corporations to do the same.
Drummond committed Cordance to being the second sponsor after Dan but noted
he would have to go up the approval chain before committing to the specific
amount.

Drummond will send a separate message to the community list with this
challenge, so hopefully by next week's call we'll have a good sense of
whether we have the funds committed to proceed with incorporation.

Lastly, we discussed the need for more working groups to draft their
charters (see the instructions below). Dan volunteered to work with Drummond
and Phil Windley to draft the charter for the Identity Rights Agreements
working group.

Subject: [Community] REMINDER: call tomorrow (Wed, Aug 23), 9am PT

Quick reminder: We have our regular call tomorrow, Wednesday August 23, at
9am PT. The dial-in info is:

  218-862-6100
  Access code: 4683772#

Paul and I will serve as substitute moderators for Eugene, who is still out
of the country. Our focus will continue to be the legal structure, with this
call focusing on the details of the option of a Swiss-based non-profit.

Also, a reminder to anyone who has proposed a working group -- everything is
now ready for you to post your draft charter in three easy steps:

1) Go to...

http://wiki.idcommons.net/moin.cgi/WorkingGroupCharterTemplate?action=raw

...and copy the raw text of the whole page.

2) Edit this text in your favorite text editor to describe your specific
working group. (You can see an example at
http://wiki.idcommons.net/moin.cgi/IcCollaborativeToolsCharter).

3) Go to http://wiki.idcommons.net/moin.cgi/FrontPage, find the Charter Page
entry for your working group (or add one), click the link, click "Create a
new page", paste in your text from step 2, save it, and you're done.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them to the list, or ask them
on the call tomorrow.
