Under "Purpose" here <http://wiki.idcommons.net/> it currently says:

The purpose of Identity Commons is to support, facilitate, and promote the
creation of an identity layer for the Internet, one that maximizes control,
convenience, and privacy for the individual while encouraging the
development of healthy, interoperable communities, by supporting the efforts
of a set of distributed working groups and by holding any common resources
deemed necessary.

I'd like to propose that we split it into the heart of the purpose:

The purpose of Identity Commons is to support, facilitate, and promote the
creation of an open identity layer for the Internet., one that maximizes
control, convenience, and privacy for the individual while encouraging the
development of healthy, interoperable communities.

.and we move the rest somewhere else, and clarify it a bit along the way:

Identity Commons by supporting the efforts of is organized as a set of
distributed working groups. Identity Commons will be constituted as a legal
entity that will hold any common resources deemed necessary by working
groups that are not themselves structured to be able to do so.

I think Identity Commons is going to become increasingly important and more
visible. And thus a shorter, more polished purpose will help the press,
policy makers, etc. understand us more easily. We're not on their radar yet,
but that could gradually change. That is, if we all truly believe in the
"commons" notion. Some things are too important to be left to private
enterprise (and governments). Open Identity is one of them.
