This is an update and CALL FOR PARTICIPATION for the EUCLId (End-User
Community for the Liberation of Identity) working group of Identity
Commons.
The last EUCLId meeting was held at IIW in December. That was a
*long* time ago. EUCLId is now long overdue to get our wiki
operational, our mailing list populated, our conference calls
scheduled, and our work underway. It is my intention to have
momentum going into IIW in May... not to wait until IIW to re-
engage. This note contains a brief status update and a set of
actions you can take to get involved.
UPDATE:
1. our charter was approved by Identity Commons Stewards Council.
2. we met at IIW in December and started two work tracks that I will
paraphrase as "IdM practices advocacy" and "public policy advocacy".
3. I solicited a co-chair and I'm pleased to say Nick Givotovsky
accepted and has done an admirable job, especially over the past 3
months when I knew I'd have very limited time to work on EUCLId.
Nick especially helped facilitate IP discussions with the Steward
Council during this period and to crystalize some of the December
discussions down into action tracks that we can now pick up and move
forward. Thanks Nick!
4. Fen has setup a mailing list for us (euclid at idcommons.net).
Thanks Fen!
5. I updated our charter page to provide some links that participants
will need to make use of right away, which leads me to our next
actions...
NEXT ACTIONS:
1. Subscribe yourself to the list.
Please visit our mailing list page and subscribe to the list. I will
not use the community at idcommons.net list for routine communication of
EUCLId activity (the occasional report perhaps). So far the
subscribers include me, Fen, and Nick. The page to visit is here:
http://mail.idcommons.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/euclid
2. Visit our charter page and update your interest in being an active
participant in EUCLId.
Until our wiki is organized I would like to rely on the charter page
as an accurate record of who the "participants" are in EUCLId. I'll
rely on this list of participants to evaluate "quorum" in our
meetings... more on that later. The page to visit is here:
http://wiki.identitycommons.net/moin.cgi/EuclidCharter
The folks currently "signed up" to participate in EUCLId are:
Owen Davis
Peter Davis
Asa Hardcastle
Dick Hardt
Jeff Hodges
Brett McDowell
Drummond Reed
Eric Tiffany
Paul Trevithick
Robin Wilton
Sarah Mees
Mark Lizar
Louis Monvoisin
Fen Labalme
Bavo DeRidder
Nick Givotovsky
3. Bookmark or subscribe to the EUCLId meeting calendar.
I am maintaining a calendar online (.ics that you can subscribe to)
of the EUCLId meetings... perhaps we'll use this for action items
too. It just currently just on my personal .Mac page. I am
proposing our first meeting to be this coming Friday at 1:00pm ET.
We'll resolve conflict schedules over the mailing list and finalize
the first meeting time over the next 48 hours. I hope you subscribe
to the mailing list soon!
You can view the EUCLId calendar at:
http://ical.mac.com/brett.mcdowell/EUCLId
You can subscribe to the EUCLId calendar at:
webcal://ical.mac.com/brett.mcdowell/EUCLId.ics
NOTE: I still need to get a free conference bridge but I'll get that
done in the next 24 hours then I'll update the calendar and I'll
circulate the call reminder to the euclid at idcommons.net email address.
4. Send in your agenda topic requests.
Please send any ideas you have for our first agenda to
euclid at idcommons.net. My strawman agenda is:
A) Introductions of participants
B) *brief* introduction of process and procedure (I'm going to
propose some basic operational guidelines for us)
C) Review status of EUCLId and ID Commons overall
D) Discuss desired outcomes of action track #1, "IdM practices advocacy"
E) Discuss desired outcomes of action track #2, "public policy advocacy"
F) Identify next actions, owners, and deadlines
G) Any other business
I hope to see your input on the wiki and on the mailing list! Let's
get something done between now and IIW!
Kind Regards,
-- Brett McDowell, Founder & Co-Chair, EUCLId
